Flash Fiction Friday, The Swell of Summer and Sorrow by @SexyMuffyWilson

Flash Fiction Friday and the challenge of this photograph to write 100 gut-wrenching words for the tag-team Rav-Dor Chicks is looming. These two awesome authors have ganged up on me for a tear-fest. Not one to back away from a throw-down, I submit my inkspiration for your entertainment. So, that said, you be the judge and please read all of the flashes we post. One 'kerchief or four? Who is the winner? Be sure and share a comment!

Now, have a quicky read then swoop around and read all the others. I have them listed like tears on a competitors cheeks below or you can jump from a central swim platform here.

Swell of Summer and Sorrow
A blanket of humidity tempted the lovers to swim in an effort to cool the summer rush of heat and pheromones. In the heavy air, laden with Southern nostalgia and the scent of Magnolia blossoms, the pristine shade of the low hanging live oaks and Spanish moss added to the temptation.

They shed their clothing in piles of cotton excitement to celebrate their engagement and later, spent from the water, they made love—long and slow.

That was then.

A swell of tears rose as they buried their baby on the same summer shores she was conceived, a tiny life that never was.

    1. That was a little down and durty. Your heart is children. But, I am glad you enjoyed it anyway, Lady Doris. xo

  5. Beautifully written. I loved the twist at the end. I was not expecting that to take hold. Beautifully descriptive words. My heart ached for the young couple. Awesome flash!

  6. You wrote a beautiful moment but it was ruined by the death of their child. Such a pretty picture tarnished by the sorrow that brought them together. This is too sad. for this couple. I would like to have this scene developed within another story. You have something written here that should not be ignored.
