He gravitates toward the role of knight in shining armor for damsels in distress. Sergeant Owen Nichols has a bad habit of being the rebound guy. When he meets Nina Jacobs, he recognizes the moment where preparation meets opportunity.

EXCERPT

This time, he dove in with her still on his shoulder—instead of dumping her—and she was ready for it. When they surfaced, she was laughing and he was, too. He swooped her into an embrace, leaning his face inches from hers. She tried to pull away and he said, “Don't. Not yet.” “Why?” “Because your ex is watching. I'm going to kiss you. Make him jealous.” “What if I don't want to kiss you?” “Do you want to make him jealous?” he asked, his lips a hair from hers. “Yes,” she breathed. “Then let me kiss you,” he whispered. “Wrap your arms around my neck and your legs around my waist.” “Why?” “Just do it.” He shifted his hands to her butt and pulled her pelvis to his. Heat flooded her body as the hard ridge of him rubbed her aching clit with each passing wave. “Better?” Lust coated his voice. “Uh huh,” she muttered as he pressed his lips to hers, warm, despite the cold water, and surprisingly soft. When she swiped her tongue over his lips, tasting the ocean salt, he opened them. His tongue danced with hers as if meant to do so. No war, no fighting, just a sensual give and take. When he pulled away, he'd left her breathless. “Why'd you stop?” I could kiss you for hours. He panted. “Did you want to keep going?” “Yes.” God, yes. I might fly apart, but I don't care. “Okay.” He kissed her again, his luscious mouth turning her inside out. This time, he let her slide down his body, and a wave nearly toppled them. “Did that work for you?” To her delight, his brawny arms still held her. “Which part? Making Liam jealous or getting excited while kissing you? Owen smiled. “I liked kissing you, too.”

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Tell us about your newest release.
Just Realized is about timing, patience, trust, friendship, and learning to how to love—and forgive—yourself. When Nina and Owen meet, they've both spent the past year soul-searching after each of them has experienced a bad breakup. But it isn't only those incidents which keep them from diving into a relationship, it's the rest of their past, which they must learn to shake in order to find happiness. They tiptoe along the route of friendship, and find that it takes them somewhere neither expected. The question is, can they make the leap into more, or has their chance passed?

What genre do you enjoy writing the most? Why?
I currently write contemporary fiction, but I enjoy anything with a bit of romance in it—both as a reader and a writer. I look forward to exploring romantic suspense and sci-fi/fantasy in the near future.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your story?
That I can't predict where a story will go, or how quickly I will be able to get there, no matter what I believe when I start. At best, it's a crap shoot.

What is your greatest fear?
That I will leave my children too soon, and the memories we've created will not be enough to sustain them for a lifetime.

What is your favorite journey? Metaphorically or otherwise?
My husband would find it annoying that I say this, but every time I read a book, I take a new journey with the characters. To me, reading a great story is almost as amazing as taking an epic trip. As for real places, our Hawaiian honeymoon was one of my favorite vacations for many different reasons.

What is your favorite quotation?
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right. —Henry Ford

What quality do you most admire in a woman/man, lover/spouse or influencer/boss?
As I've grown older, I find that I value compassion above almost anything else.

Besides writing, what other interests do you have?
My interests are many. I read; try my hand at amateur photography (especially landscapes); enjoy art and graphic design; like to sew and do other crafts; can spend hours solving puzzles of various sorts; adore live entertainment (concerts of many types, theater, opera, dance, performance art, you name it); love to move my body—walking, dancing, hiking, and snowshoeing are my four favorites; could live at the beach or on a lake, so that I might fish, swim, and boat in the warm weather months; and I appreciate great food from the perspective of the diner and the cook. If I can do any of those things with family and friends, then that's all the better.

Where do you get your greatest ideas for writing?
Dreams and daydreams fuel my imagination.

Can you tell us what is coming up next for you?
My Ward Sisters series has four more books planned. The next story in the series, Think of Me (Ward Sisters, #7), will also serve as a launching point for a romantic suspense spinoff series, Deacon Security. It will follow the guards of the security team introduced in the first Ward Sisters book, Back to December, as the team establishes an East Coast branch. My goal is to publish book 7 later this year. I also intend to launch another spinoff series, Vega Brothers, which tells the story of the members of the Vega family, who were introduced in Right Here Waiting (Ward Sisters, #3). The first story in that series, Steal Your Heart, features Nico Vega. My plans include at least one, possibly three more stories on the docket, but as I said above, predicting the schedule is a lot like the weather—a perfect example of chaos theory.

AUTHOR BIO

Lucy Gage started her writing career under another name, but the same vivid imagination and love of books still fuels her daily life. When she's not writing, you can find her spending time with her family in her home state of Maine, experiencing a life that helps shape her writing.
She loves to hear from fans, and appreciates that they asked about her writing while she took this last year to focus on other parts of her life. Look for her website in 2016. Ward Sisters Series Book #7, Think of Me, will arrive in 2016. Book 1 in the Vega Brothers Series—a Ward Sisters spinoff—launches later in the year.
