Darien began to pace the small clearing. She watched him walk back and forth, watched how his long, lean muscles rippled as he walked, and how a lock of hair fell over his forehead as he concentrated.

He was like rich, silken chocolate for the eyes. She had sex only a few times with occasional humans she had come across, but it had never been very satisfying. It seemed like sex with Darien would be satisfying, very satisfying indeed. He just had a way about him. A confidence that spoke of experience. He would know how to please her. He’d succeed where others had failed, she was sure of it.

Stop it. She had reached the fertile age of an Iatros lifespan and Aly was just needy. It was her hormones talking, nothing more. She fought the heat rising up in her core and glanced at Cai. He gave her a pained look and waved his hand, once again asking her to let them pass. No. She’d never be able to forgive herself if Cai got hurt. Not only was he the queen’s spirit-mate, but he was a close friend. The guilt would be enormous.

“I know.” Darien stopped pacing and turned toward her. “You need a password.”

“A password?”

“A key word or phrase that, when spoken, will allow us to pass.”

Alysanne rolled her eyes. “I know what a password is.”

“Good.” He tapped his chin. “Let’s see…”

“I don’t need a password. It doesn’t work that way.”

“A secret handshake?” He took a step toward her.

“No.”

“A touch, perhaps.” He advanced another step, making her uneasy.

“No.”

He continued to close the distance between them, his gaze locked on hers. “A kiss, then…”

AUTHOR BIO

A lifetime New Englander, Suzanne married her college sweetheart and has been with him for over twenty years. Every summer she drags her husband and two daughters to Maine on a quest for the perfect lobster dinner. Every fall she can be found down in Foxboro, Massachusetts cheering on her favorite football team. In between those trips, she’s a chauffeur, a maid, a chef, an event planner, a hairdresser, a wardrobe stylist, a tutor and a sometimes masseuse. To keep her sanity, she often drinks copious amounts of coffee and stares at the blank screen of her laptop, dreaming of great adventures. Sometimes she even writes them down for others to enjoy.
