Tantalyzing Tuesday Teasers ~ The Lightness of Being

Most of us are enjoying a burst of Spring right now, but not all. And don't we long to feel the sun on our winter cheeks, the lightness of being after shedding winter garb? What if we had never felt that lushness of freedom, of life and rebirth?

Today's piece is just that. Sheltered from the dangers, and pleasures, of life our heroine longs for the freedom to explore the new and raw feelings she is experiencing. Have a quick read, leave a comment if you desire and I'll see you next week. Do please have a saunter over to the other participating authors and read what Teaser they have crafted for you. Here is the linkie, or they are listed like spring dewdrops below.

The Lightness of Being
The restless feeling of longing came over her regularly now in sweeping waves of anxious desire. It was a sensation new to her. For as long as she could remember, perhaps always, she lived inside these walls, sheltered—shielded—from the toxic world that bustled just beyond her fingertips.

It made sense to her at one time. But, of late, she questioned the rationale that would describe walking a dog on a dew-covered morning down a fog laden street as toxic? How could children in yellow rubber boots playing in collected pools of fragrant spring rain be threatening? Could lovers sharing a baguette de pain and chocolate on a handmade comforter in the park be dangerous?

Yet, that is what she had been told…for her own safety.

It was her life until she noticed him one day. Behind the glistening reflective panes of glass that separated them, he sat and painted the street scenes below in the warm morning sunlight. He sat at night under the watchful eye of the moon until the last signs of life were swallowed by the velveteen darkness.

Inside the restrictive protection of her refuge she felt the impatient curiosity swell within her. She sighed.

  1. Haunting and reflective. You tapped into her isolation and gave us a glimpse of her emotional state. Very well done.

    1. Thank you, Kendel. I am a tad rusty, but finally I am back. The last of the winter's cold snow-weary guests departed on Sunday and I have my life returned, at least for the balance of the year until next season. Thank you for stopping by and commenting. xo
