A Taste of Thursday ~ Are You My Daddy?

Thursday brings us a tippy-taste of whatever we are working on for a small band of authors relentless in their pursuit of the written word. Today, I am presenting a wee snippet from my finished work, Moonbeams of Unintended ConsequencesWhen last we met with this family, they had gone to the Shedd Aquarium then onto the hospital for tests and donor match results. The news was not encouraging, but not hopeless either.

When you have a chance, would you please be kind enough to comment then go visit the other participants today and read a bit of their work, too? Be a dear and leave an encouraging comment.

Enjoy ~  ☼ o√ ¸.¨¯`*..*˜"*°
Are You My Daddy?
Lily rose from her nap in Lianna’s room where Lianna was sleeping curled up against Tag-a-Long. Lily heard voices and followed the sound, most naturally. The voices were coming from Mr Simon’s office. He was on the phone talking to someone because only his voice could be heard. She padded, bare-footed into his office where she knocked on the office door, entered and sat on his sofa.
“John, yes, we will speak more on this tomorrow. I’ll have Harvey look up the law on the matter if you’ll please pursue the position of the committee. Yes, thank you. I have to go. I have company in my office.”
Simon replaced the handset into the phone cradle, looked at his little girl and smiled.
“I thought you were taking a nap.”
“Do you ever take naps, Mr Simon?”
“Yes, I do. I get tired, too, you know.”
“Lianna is still sleeping. I snuck down here to talk to you, so I am glad you are awake.”
“This sounds serious, Lily. What would you like to talk about?”
“Hummm, well…are you my daddy?”
Simon, trying to buy some time to think, pushed his chair away from his desk, stood and walked across the room to the sofa where this small little person was looking for answers. He sat down next to Lily.
“Why do you ask that, Lily?”
“I thought you might be my daddy, like you are Saile's daddy and Lianna’s and Simon’s.”
“Well, how would you feel if I was?”
“I think I would like that very much. I have never had a daddy, you know. You are kind, and nice. You like my Mummy.”
“And, I like you very much.”
“Yes, you like me and you are trying so hard to help me. I thought only a daddy or a real giant would do so much for someone they didn’t know.”
“But, I know you…and your Mummy.”
“So are you my daddy or my giant?”
“What would you think if I was both?”
Lily pulled up to her knees and crawled into Simon’s lap as she put her arms around the large man‘s neck. She tucked her little head into the soft spot just below his chin where her nose fit perfectly into his nape.
“I would like that very much. I think it would make my Mummy feel safe.”
“Well, let’s talk to your Mummy about this later, okay?” Simon, happy he’d skirted the issue successfully with Lily, released a silent sigh of relief that she was satisfied with his answer. He did not feel it was his place to tell Jordan’s daughter the story behind her life, without her mother here to monitor her daughter’s reactions and questions. That would have to come later. It didn’t look like it was going to be too much later, but later it would be.
“Is there anything else you want to talk about?” Simon asked his little girl.
”No, Mr Simon. Are you and Mummy going to eat with us tonight or eat in the big room?”
“No, I think your Mummy and I are going to eat in the kitchen with Maddie and you kids. It seems to be where all the fun happens.”
“Yes, it is fun. Do you like Maddie’s cauliflower mac-and-cheese?”
“I never knew it had cauliflower in it! But I like it. I guess she fooled me, too!”
“And made you big and strong and healthy!!”
“I guess you are right, Miss Lily. Now, why don’t you go wake up your Mummy and we will all join Maddie for dinner?”
“Okay…Mummy! MUMMY!” The little one ran out of Simon’s office as he called after his daughter.

“She is in the guest house, Lily!” Simon smiled to himself in the way only a man in love with his child can do. Please, God, let me save my little girl, he prayed.

A Taste of Thursday ~ Will you save me...?

Yummy...A Taste of Thursday opens as we catch up with the folks in my work, Moonbeams of Unintended Consequences. They are all tired from their day at the Shedd Museum in Chicago and then the doctor's appointments at Northwestern about Lily and Simon's donor compatibility.

When you have finished reading my excerpt, and it is a bit longer than usual, please support my fellow authors and spread the love by reading a sample of their hard work and please leave a comment.

Enjoy ~  ☼ o√ ¸.¨¯`*..*˜"*°
Will you save me...?
Before long, they returned home and the estate looked large and welcoming to Simon. As they pulled up, the children, having cast anything serious out of their minds, jockeyed for position when the vehicle stopped so they could bolt, as only children can. Lily was a little slower than the others, sitting closely beside her mother and next to Simon.

”Do you want me to carry you, Lily, to Lianna’s bedroom?”

“You mean like a piggyback ride?”

“Well, not quite. More like how a fireman would carry you if he saved you.”

“Will you save me? I will let you if you can. I like you, and all the others.”

“Well, I like you too, Lily, very much. Any yes, we are going to save you. Lots of us are going to save you.”

“But, they all work for you, so really, it’s you - you are saving me?” Lily looked rather matter-of-fact about the pecking order and who was in charge.

“I suspect you could look at it that way. Why, are you worried?” Simon wanted to reassure the child that while this was serious, they had a plan.

“No, I am not worried, not really. I’m a little afraid, like when you go to bed at night and you think there is a monster in the closet but there never is? And your Mummy comes in and checks for you, just so you feel better?”

“Oh, sure. I understand that. Lianna, Simon and Saile all had those scary times, usually after a monster movie. But, there was never anything there.” Simon reasoned with Lily.

“Well, my Mummy told me that you are my giant and you were going to help me, if I would let you. So, it’s kinda like that kinda scary.”

“Okay, so how about I carry you into Lianna’s room, check under the bed and the closet for you girls and you take a little nap before dinner?”

“Okay, I will be Rapunzel and you can save me from the tower, okay?”

“You got it, Rapunzel.” Simon laughed at the reasoning of the little girl and shifted immediately into ‘Hero’ mode for her benefit. He swept her into his arms, Bud helped Jordan out of the back of the limousine and he made their way into the house to Lianna’s room.

Jordan went into the kitchen to see to the other children and check with Maddie.

“Hello, Maddie”

"Well, Ms Jordan. How was your day?” Maddie, in an effort to appear casual, replied.

“Well, good and not so good. We had a wonderful time at the Shedd, but things were not very promising at Northwestern for Lily.”

“Oh, Jordan, I am so sorry to hear that. I prayed for her.”

“Me, too, and I thank you. I don’t know what we are going to do to help her. I am so scared.”

Maddie approached the young mother and put her arms around her reassuringly and let out a little ‘Huh-mmm’ – that universal hum of comfort and reassurance. Jordan leaned into the older woman, embraced her and relaxed against Maddie’s breast.

“Miss Jordan, Mr D isn’t going to let anything happen to that little girl, you mark my words. He loves that child just like his own and he will do anything he can to help her. I know him; I know him for a very long time. Talia would have wanted him to move Heaven and Earth to help her.”

“Oh, Maddie, thank you so much. You don’t know how much that means to me. I have been under so much pressure, trying to think of everything alone.”

“Mr D is the best man I know — a giant among men. He’ll do whatever it takes. Now, why don’t you go take a nap before dinner? I see you didn’t sleep last night, sitting up drinking tea.”

"Wha...?"

A Taste of Thursday ~ A Valentine Baby

How about a little Taste of my Thursday? You know what I mean! Just a wee read of my WIP which is now sitting somewhere on a publishers desk waiting for a rejection letter. Can't get our hopes up unnecessarily.....In the meantime, we can at least enjoy a little sample from Moonbeams of Unintended Consequences while we are here. With a little Valentine Day sentimentality, I offer you a little background on our little Lily by way of our snooping housekeeper Maddie.

Please enjoy a little slice of my work and then slip over with the wind beneath your wings and have a read of my partners work. You can find them at the links all over or listed one by one, like Valentine heartbeats below. Happy Valentine's Day.

Enjoy ~  ☼ o√ ¸.¨¯`*..*˜"*°

A Valentine Baby
In the end, she learned much more than she expected about Lily but really little more about Jordan and Simon. Perhaps they were just long time friends that came together to help Jordan’s little girl

Lily was, indeed, a very sick little girl. She had Acute Sarcoidosis, an immune deficiency disorder that caused nodules to grow, usually on the lungs, causing scar tissue which ultimately required a lung transplant. But Lily also had a complicating condition of Sickle Cell Anemia, the development of which had been masked, until it had done irreparable damage to her liver. She needed a life saving liver transplant. Maddie knew she shouldn’t, but she continued reading.

There were details about probabilities of live donor versus cadaver donor, the complications of SCA and it went on and on about percentages and result matrixes. It was overwhelming. Suddenly, Maddie felt a wave of compassion for Jordan and her daughter because of the catastrophic situation they found themselves in. She was about to close the daytimer, satisfied that she had found the reason for their trip when something caught her eye  — she saw it.

In Jordan’s daytimer, a piece of paper, one small piece of paper, upturned Maddie’s world and stunned her with the revelation: Lily’s birth certificate named Simon D’Istrafrio as the father of one Lily Simone Taylor, born February 14, 2005. Oh, good God! A Valentine Baby as well!

Maddie went to the laptop on the desk, provided for their guests. She wanted to look up Valentine Baby births. Her shame was swamped by her compelling interest.

A baby born on Valentine’s Day is born under the Star sign of Aquarius. The Aquarian baby is chatty, very bright, original and independent. She will learn things quickly and absorbs information with great energy. Because of this, she has a lot to teach her playmates. A Valentine baby can be very stubborn at times and, despite valuing the company of others, also enjoys her time alone. She can occasionally appear detached from others but, despite appearances, is often thinking about those close to her and is extremely loyal.
You will quickly come to expect the unexpected where your Aquarian baby is concerned. Her individuality teamed with her strong stubborn streak means that she will certainly keep you on your toes!
Your baby’s independent nature means that she will often prefer to work out her own worries and problems, so much so that it can often be best to let her scream her way through that tantrum on her own. Her naturally creative ability should be nurtured and encouraged as the Aquarian baby can be very much into their own dream world.
A Valentine’s baby is very quick to learn but can become frustrated so the trick is to keep her occupied and stimulated. She also values her freedom and can be defiant, driving parents and playmates mad! The best way to deal with it is to be firm but fair as once your Valentine baby has an idea it will take a lot to make her change her mind.

That was Lily to a tee — well, as much as she has seen of the child! Maddie knew about Valentine’s Day Baby births and it explained so much about the way Lily behaved but it explained more about how Mr D was behaving. Maddie wondered if Lily knew that Simon was her father. Surely Simon did, or they wouldn’t be here. Her thoughts bolted to Talia. Had Talia known?

Oh, dear God, I pray she didn’t know.

A Taste of Thursday, 29 January 2015 ~ The Fear of Knowing #iamwriting #writing #multiculturallove

A Taste of Thursday begins and ends with you. And a little slice of Heaven from my current WIP, Moonbeams of Unintended Consequences. As you know, the little girl born to Simon and Jordan after that soulful sexy night a decade earlier is dying and requires a live organ donor.

Let's see what happens today. And when you are done reading my short excerpt, have a dip in the prurient pools of my writing partners and see what they are offering up for your amusement. They are listed all over via the linkies and below. I am sure the water is sinfully sexy, wet, and warm.

Enjoy ~  ☼ o√ ¸.¨¯`*..*˜"*°

The Fear of Knowing

“Simon, I am so impressed by your children. They seem so…so…”
“Well-adjusted?”
“Well, yes, I supposed so.”
“May I fix you a drink?”
“Yes, please. Whatever you are having is fine.”
“How about the sweet pleasures of a Southern Comfort Manhattan?”
“Sounds delicious, thank you.”
“That’s Talia.”
“Pardon me?”
“Talia. It is because of Talia that the children are so well-adjusted. She prepared them for her death so it came as no surprise to them. She helped them treasure every moment they had left to share. They rarely bickered or fought. It was the quality of her life she wanted to make sure they remembered, not that she was ill and dying. So, they talk about her comfortably and lovingly. There are a few tears, but mostly happiness that we had her for as long as we did. We cherished our second chance with her when she went into remission the first time.”
“She sounds like a remarkable woman, Simon. You were a very lucky man; some would say wealthy man.”
“Yes, Jordan. I know that and I am still. I have four beautiful children who enrich my life daily.”
“Four…? Of course, Lily! I am not used to thinking in terms of a ‘we’”
“I am just getting used to it myself. Here, try this.”
“Oh, my. That is delicious, Simon. Something tells me these can sneak up on a girl.”
“And a guy, Jordan! Definitely, two’s the limit. Is the guest house comfortable? Do you need anything?”
“It is wonderful, Simon, very generous of you. And Lily loved all the stuffed animals in her bedroom. That was so thoughtful of you.”
“Oh, that was not me. It was Lianna. She didn’t want Lily to be afraid so far from home and so sick. So she decided to share her favorite stuffed animals with Lily so she isn’t afraid or won’t have nightmares.”
“What a beautiful child. That is so thoughtful and unselfish.”
“Please, don’t get the idea these kids are little saints. They do their share of sinning!”
“That’s funny! I guess they all do.”
Simon, right then, decided to tell Jordan his news about their plans for the following day. They would have to cut short their visit to the Shedd Aquarium and head over to the hospital early. Everything had been moved up an hour. They were scheduled for Lily’s genome testing at three o’clock and to see his doctor at four.
“That’s a whole day early, Simon. That cannot be good news. I am not ready. I can’t face the results. Results. Did you talk to him? Did he tell you, because if he did, please tell me now.”
“No, Jordan. I didn’t talk to him. Ms Meriwether called me about the rescheduling. But this is a good thing, Jordan. We can make our plans and any arrangements sooner. Please, don’t worry. This is a good thing, for us and for Lily. The sooner we know, the sooner we can help Lily.”

Moonlight Hunger
He slipped the thin white straps of her gown over her arms, one at a time, while he kissed and anointed each lovely curve of her alabaster shoulders with his lips. He praised God in the perfection of His creation - this beautiful redheaded vixen in his arms that was his to devour. There was no formality, no hesitance, no resistance from Jordan in any way for as her gown floated from her body and settled into a white silken puddle around her feet, she rose to her toes, slipped her arms around Simon’s strong, thick black neck, and buried herself in tighter to his hardening body. She made her wanton needs evident with a deep, drowning kiss that joined their tongues in a fervent feral tango, tight and demanding.

He had never known such hunger for a woman as he did this woman. Her trusses fell in ringlets of red and gold about her face, caressing her shoulders and brushing his chest as he pulled her closer, closer, closer. She smelled of lavender and bread, champagne and sex. It was an aroma he found, to his excitement, delicious. He would consume this woman, every satin inch of her tonight.

And she would revel in the lavish indulgence of his touch, his kiss, the mystery and magic talent of his tongue. The penetrating fullness of his cock twitched as if unimpressed by any other need and on fire to burn within Jordan igniting her core, burning her need for any other man, extinguishing her every brilliant blaze with a heat so white hot it flamed to an inferno.

They spoke few words after those first few magnetic moments. Their language was on the wings of love, for love it must be, he thought that even then. He had never felt this immediate about a woman in his life. Even he was caught just slightly off guard, but he never resisted, never fought the impulse, never hesitated; he never questioned the night as he plunged into this woman, his heart laid bare at her alter.

And, so, the night went with a touch, a sigh; a kiss, an embrace glistening with the perspiration of passion, flickering in the moonlight glitter. It was a night he had never forgotten, had never wanted to forget which he had never fully shared with anyone, but savored in his memories.

Someone to Watch Over Me
Jordan stretched out more comfortably on the sofa, uncurling her legs out from under her. As she did, she stretched, arched her back and raised her arms above her head. She opened her body to the music. As the music began, the sweeping orchestration was romantic in and of itself. Jordan closed her eyes and allowed the music to wash over her. She felt as if the music and the melodious sound of Simon’s voice strummed and played her body. The music was Someone to Watch Over Me as she heard earlier while she drifted off to sleep. It was so beautiful, she felt like crying. The longing, the yearning, the romantic love that surrounded her in the perfect pitch of Simon’s voice was so moving, so beautiful that Jordan felt the emotion well up inside of her to a soulful pitch.

“Oh, Simon, my God but that is beautiful. You have to release this cd. It will be a huge hit with lovers and anyone who loves romantic period music from the 40’s.”

“Thank you, Jordan. That means a lot to me coming from you.”

“It sounds like a love letter; your voice is rich with an aching resonance. Are all the songs like this?”

“Yes, I believe so, Jordan.”

“And your accompaniment. Who is it?”

“The Boston Pops Philharmonic Orchestra.”

“Do you realize that you will introduce an entire generation of music lovers to melodies from another era? That is so wonderful! More people will hear your voice and become fans. That was very clever of you. When will you release this cd?”

“I don’t know, Jordan. I really hadn’t given a release any thought. I wanted to make an album for lovers as a kind of love letter.”

“Well, surely you did! It is just wonderful.”

“I am so glad you like it, Jordan. It is very special to me.”

Jordan made no further comments about the music and just enjoyed the pleasantries of the music. She was unprepared to delve further into the genesis of the record. She wanted to know, she wanted it to be for her, but hung in on the other hand, she wanted to steer as far away from the reason for the record as possible. Jordan was not ready to pursue anything with Simon that would constitute a convenience. There was too much at stake. Her daughter’s life hung in the balance. She was not risking her life in exchange for something that began and ended ten years ago. The conversation ended, for the moment, on a romantic note from the cd, Love is a Many Splendored Thing, as Jordan closed her eyes again and drifted with the melody. Jordan’s quiet revelry was short lived.
